PIVOT is a streamlined research funding search engine for faculty, post-docs, and graduate students. In this session, participants will learn best practices for building a tailored PIVOT profile with weekly, automated alerts to track funding opportunities.

This session will involve a discussion of the beginning steps of writing a problem statement and hypothesis that guides the research design or approach for your grant proposal. Examples will be given about the difference between scholarly writing and writing proposals for funding.

This session will discuss how to start using funding at UTK and tie it to your scholarship agenda/trajectory. Additional details will be provided about the length of available funding, how to manage your spending, and the rules you must follow.

The University’s main research office ORIED requires new hires to submit a strategic research agenda by the end of fall 2024. This first session in a series of three begins the process by reviewing the basic tenants of a strategic research funding plan with core funding opportunities, staggered research projects, and multi-year planning to advance their research, scholarship, and/or creative activities.
