This session will review pathways of research support through the College’s Office of Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) and the University’s Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development (ORIED). Focusing on external grants, the offices provide pre-award, research development, and strategic research funding services.

This session will discuss how to start using funding at UTK and tie it to your scholarship agenda/trajectory. Additional details will be provided about the length of available funding, how to manage your spending, and the rules you must follow. The sessions will be organized by divisions in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Leaders from UTK’s IRB office will present on the IRB review process and what requires IRB review. Topics include the regulatory criteria for exempt research, expedited studies, and full board review. As a compliance refresher and overview of the IRB process at UTK, this session is ideal for faculty, graduate students, and post-docs.

This session will involve representatives from each office to provide details on the timing of submission, support available and other resources that ease the burden of tackling a Center-scale proposal submission alone.

This session will focus on assisting new hires to develop a scholarship agenda. We will review the necessary components of a successful agenda with core funding opportunities, staggered research projects, and multi-year planning to advance their research, scholarship, and/or creative activities. Sessions will be divided by divisions in the College of Arts and Sciences.
