Spark is a free cloud-based application that empowers you to create creative social media Post, Pages and Videos with voice-over. It’s very easy to use, and creating content is just a mouse click away. Adobe even provides stock photos and royalty-free music for the videos you create. Adobe has created a wonderful tool for producing online content. Because the application is cloud-based, you can start a project on one computer and continue editing it on another computer or device.

Google Sites and Google Forms: Introduction

ONE-HOUR WORKSHOP. It’s more than just creating a survey, although we can do that with Google Forms too, but you can also create registration information, take a quick poll, collect email addresses, and even create a pop quiz that can be taken on any device and the results sent back to a spreadsheet in real-time where you can create charts to help you analyze the data. In this class you’ll learn the basics of using Google Forms by designing a form to collect email addresses and creating a quick opinion poll.

This workshop will introduce you to the Illustrator palettes, tools, and overall layout of the program. This hands-on workshop will focus on creating a vector-based illustration, taking you through steps of creating shapes, fills, lines, patterns and applying effects. By the end of workshop you will have created your own illustration.

Lightroom is an image management and editing application from Adobe. Using Lightroom, users are able to work through their images sorting and organizing making them easy to find when needed, editing the look of the images, and finally sharing on the web. Unravel the mystery of Photoshop. Learning how to use layers is the key! This class teaches the fundamentals of layering. To understand layering, think of stacking transparencies of different graphics to give the appearance of one image. Add some art to the mystery with Painting and Editing. Work with colors, brushes, gradients, and more.

Adobe Photoshop: Improving your Photos

In this class, participants learn to use masks to protect parts of an image from change, just like using masking tape to paint a room or a vehicle, or using a stencil to letter a sign. Students also learn to retouch photos. They will learn to remove unwanted objects from a picture, change a gray sky to partly cloudy, and brighten the colors.

If you are new to Photoshop, this is the perfect workshop to begin learning the tools and basic techniques. Participants will examine the Photoshop interface. Selections from the toolbar will be defined, discussed, and applied to a graphic. Invaluable shortcuts for opening, viewing, and selecting will be taught. Work with palettes and palette menus. Learn and apply the creative skills needed for manipulating graphics. These skills include selecting, editing, and rotating shapes, then adding the shapes to another graphic.

Adobe Rush & iMovie: Editing Videos

Participants will learn the basic of video editing using iMovie. The class will cover:
  • Importing video footage and stills
  • Cropping, trimming, and splitting clips
  • Inserting transitions between clips
  • Adding background music

R: Markdown

R Markdown – In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to blend your research writing, programming, and output into a single word processing style document using the R Markdown language. This style of work is known as Reproducible Research since every phase of the analysis can be recreated by “knitting” a single document. The output document can be HTML with an interactive table of contents, or Word or PDF formats. While we will be using it with the R language, Markdown commands apply to many other languages such as Python and SAS. Some knowledge of the R language would be helpful but is not required.
