Interpretation of laboratory assay measurements depends not only on the precision of the assay but also on an understanding of biological variation both within and between subjects. This workshop will introduce the concepts, calculation, and interpretation of assay precision (CV%), repeatability (Sr), intermediate precision (SL), Index of Individuality (II), and Reference Change Values (RCV). It will also cover the differences between using population-based reference intervals and subject-specific monitoring approaches for analyzing repeated assay measurements.
