Canvas: Assigning Extra Credit

This workshop provides an overview of how to set up extra credit in a Canvas course. Specifically, it will showcase how instructors can give extra points on a graded assignment, create an extra credit assignment, and assign a percentage weight to an extra credit assignment group. The workshop will also highlight additional scenarios that instructors need to consider as they grade students, such as when and how to change points earned after submission, how to create extra credit using a rubric, and how to add fudge points.

This workshop will focus on the Canvas assignment tool faculty can use to track and/or improve student learning. Instructors will also learn the relationship between Canvas assignments and the grade book. Canvas: Creating an Accommodations Profile in YuJa Verity

View Workshop Times

The accommodations area in YuJa Verity (not to be confused with other SDS accommodations in Canvas quizzes) allows instructors the ability to assign a student, or group of students, their own set of YuJa Verity settings, or even excuse them from YuJa Verity altogether. If instructors want to give a student custom settings, an accommodations profile will need to be created before the exam date. By the end of this session, instructors will be able to create accommodations profiles in YuJa Verity and apply them as needed.

Canvas: Getting Started with YuJa Verity

This is an overview session on how to set up YuJa Verity on quizzes and exams in Canvas. There are two distinct YuJa Verity tools: the lockdown app and the browser extension. We’ll discuss settings on both, as well as some best practices on when to use which tool. By the end of this session, you should be able to create YuJa Verity profiles and apply them to your quizzes and exams.

Instructors and designers can take this condensed half hour workshop to learn more about organizing their Canvas course sites to maximize efficiency and impact. Participants will learn more about course quota, the Modules-Files-Pages relationship, how to create a helpful Course Menu and Home Page for their Canvas course sites, and more.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the differences among Canvas course sites' Files, Pages, and Modules.
  • Recognize the benefits of Files, Pages, and Modules, as well as any drawback of each.
  • Evaluate the Course Menu in course sites and organize it in a way most beneficial to both instructors and their students.
  • Design, develop, and organize Canvas course sites using the information presented in this workshop.

Designed for instructors, this workshop provides an overview of the Canvas Portfolio tool and its benefits. Using Portfolio features allows students to create work that aligns with defined requirements and skills. We walk participants through the differences between Canvas Portfolio and legacy ePortfolio and Portfolium (Folio) tools and functionalities. Participants will also learn how to create a Showcase and Evaluation portfolio and integrate it into Speedgrader.

This workshop will cover practical techniques for uploading and managing Panopto content within Canvas. Panopto is fully integrated with Canvas allowing instructors to share content to their Canvas course without leaving the course site. Learn how to add Panopto video content to your course using the external tools and text editor functions inside of Canvas. Integrate videos within the assignments function in Canvas to allow students to submit their own Panopto videos for feedback and grades.

Canvas Credentials is a digital badging platform within Canvas for recognizing achievement. Digital badges provide a visual, online representation of students’ accomplishments, skills, and/or achievements. Badges are a great way to improve student learning and engagement as they enable the ability for instructors to identify skills students have gained or still need to earn.

Join us in this workshop as we provide an overview and demonstration of digital badges and their benefits. We will walk you through how to access Canvas Credentials, create and issue badges, revoke badges, and manage awarded badges.

In this workshop, learn how to use the accessibility checker in Microsoft products, learn the difference between items that must be changed versus items that are nice to change.
